
John Matheson has over 35 years experience in the consumer goods industry, with a background including store management, buying, and sales and merchandising.
Starting his career at Woolworths – one of Australia's leading grocery chains – John quickly moved from trainee manager to store manager before making the leap into the business' buying department. This experience gave John the insight and know-how to turn a number of sales and marketing ventures into great success stories.
In 1983 John left Woolworths to start his first sales and marketing business, Counterpoint Marketing. John worked with respected brands such as Kelloggs, Procter & Gamble, 3M and Heinz Watties to successfully launch their products into the Australian market.
With his partner Graeme Shield, John built Counterpoint Marketing into a well renowned, best practice service provider to the supermarket industry. The Photon Group acquired the business in 2005.
Over the years John has proven himself to be a well respected leader within the industry. He has served a number of terms as president of the Australian Food Brokers Association (later renamed the Association of Sales and Marketing Companies Australasia) and was inaugurated into the ASMCA Hall of Fame in 2005.
John is now a shareholder and director of AUSTMARK International. He is also a director and shareholder in B2B Logisitics, Supermarket Sales and Tunloam.
